White plastic turned orange ??

After I bought my Taylor test kit to test all parameters, it required I add large amounts of Calcium Chloride and Baking Soda plus CYA to bring all parameters to balance, but one of them or the combination of what I added, put an orange film on all the white plastic surfaces, like on the light frames and skimmer.
it came off very easily with Muriatic Acid and a sponge, but can anyone tell me why those surfaces turned orange?

Thanks,

Bruce

Sounds like it could be iron stains. None of those pool chems together or separately would cause orange stains. Raising pH and/or FC can cause iron in the water to stain. And plastic and fiberglass parts tend to show iron stains first. Vit C/ascorbic acid will remove iron stains also.
