Pool Heater Spraying water

I just went outside and noticed that my Summit Sum 5 heater is gushing water upwards from the bottom inlet pipe that appears to have some sort of small valve/opening on it. I've only owned this house and pool for about a year, so I'm not terribly familiar with the inner workings of the heater.

Any idea what this is or why this is happening?

Here are a couple pics I grabbed :

Welcome to the forum.

That looks like the remains of a (broken) barbed hose fitting, possibly for some kind of water flow monitor.

Is there a small diameter hose in the area that has one end disconnected?

You called it, Dom! Took the top off and found the small hose lying there with a broken piece of barbed plastic inside. Makes sense that the heater was reporting no Flow while this was happening.
This looks like a much easier fix than I initially anticipated.

Thanks!
