The Algae Fight with Drop-in Pool Steps

We purchased a set of drop-in pool steps for our IG pool about 5 years ago, the kind you weigh down with sandbags. Here's a link to a set similar to ours:

By end of July/early Aug, the algae builds up inside and it's a loosing battle from there on out. Then of course we have the task of getting the steps out of the pool before we cover it which is torture because the water is way too cold! In sum, they have been a PITA!

Even though the last thing we wanted to do was spend another $500 on steps, I started googling, looking for a new set of steps that might be more circulation-friendly. Instead I found this article:

So this is our project for today. We bought all the supplies yesterday and are ready for an algae-free summer! This is also how we found this forum, the link is at the bottom of the page. I wonder if the person who posted this is a member? If so, just wanted to say thanks for the great idea! Also going to do the turkey baster thing!
