High CYA in new pool just built

I just had a quick question regarding CYA. We had our IG Pebbletec pool just completed at the end of July and only used chlorine pucks for about a week before I found this website. After only using the pucks for about a week and a half, I switched over to the BBB method and tested the water using Taylor 2006. Right away my CYA was 90 so I was wondering what could be causing the high CYA right off the bat. I doubt a week of using the pucks caused it to rise that fast. Could it be the new pebbletec?

Do you know if your pool builder (PB) added CYA?

They may have also added dichlor "shock" which also adds CYA. According to PoolMath an 8oz trichlor puck will raise CYA by 4.1 ppm.

They could have possibly added something, I was only available later in the day to get pool care instructions from the guy.

CYA only gets into a pool via pool chem products........pucks, tri-chlor,di-chlor, CYA granules.

Pebbletec has nothing to do with it.

My guess is the PB added it during the start up. Since you have been reading TFP you know what needs to be done. I would not go down too far with your being in AZ. Shoot for 60 or so and see how it goes.
