Smoothing rough repairs

Folks,
I recently used Pool Patch on some step corners where the gunite had been ground away by the Polaris, strange but very true. All good, I'm pleased with the product but I purposely just 'lathered it on' as I wasn't sure it would work. What I have now is a surface that is far from flat. I was thinking of using a pumice block to file the area flat. Is there any other product that might work better? The area is a strip about 3ft long. Here is a pic of what was happening, though it grew in time. That area is now covered up with Pool Patch.

Waterproof sand paper or sanding block should work pretty well if the patch product is similar to plaster.

OK thanks. I'd didn't know about waterproof sandpaper. I'll certainly give it a try. I'm thinking it is similar to pool plaster with some quick set epoxy in it. Thanks
