One of my fittings has a slow drip but it is too big for anything I have to get around and needs to be tighter than what I can do by hand. Does an oil filter wrench work or will I need a rubber strap wrench or something else?

A strap wrench made with cloth/fabric works best for me. The rubber ones did not work for me as well. Look in the plumbing department. I think I paid around $14
Hand tight should be all that's needed on unions. Did you insure the rubber 0-ring is installed on the mating surface?
