Light yellow staining usually indicates iron.
Crush up a vitamin c tablet, put it against one of the floor stains for a good 5 minutes or so, and tell us if that removes the stain where it sat.
Are you on a well? Do you treat with metal sequestrant at all (sometimes called stain and scale)?
If you've previously used a metal sequestrant and now are getting light staining, its a sign you need a maintenance dose.
How do your stairs look? Have they yellowed? (Another sign of iron.)
With iron or copper, staining is more likely at a higher ph, and lowering your ph to around 7.2 will help prevent further stains.
Right now the trick is to determine if its metal, and if its specifically iron for best steps forward.
