Question: someone told me that if you have too much chlorine that will cause you to get algae..... Is this true?

Yea I thought so, just wanted to make sure, when you say to much stabilizer, how much would be too much?

Just checked my CYA and it came to 80. That's pretty high huh? I think I started out at 50, could this be why I'm getting algae again?

How are you testing for CYA? It won't go up without adding some.
Look at the chart referenced above, and read this:Pool School - ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry
If your chlorine level was below the minimum of 6, it would cause algae to take hold.

That's the thing, I keep my chlorine level high, in fact it's at 11 right now, all other levels are where they should be.... I tested the CYA with the test kit....

Actually I used chlorine tablets in the beginning so I think that's what brought my CYA up

You are correct. Each tab adds almost as much CYA as it does FC. But the CYA doesn't go away so...
I recently went back to the tablets to keep the chlorine steady then when it gets low I add the liquid chlorine...... Should I stop using the tablets?

Yes! They are adding CYA and messing with pH. There is a spot at the bottom of the Pool Math page that goes into detail about it.
And I just checked the CC and it read that there is none, in assuming that can't be good

If your pool was 5000 gals like mine. Adding 8oz of trichlor (approx 1 puck) will raise FC by 11, raise CYA by 6.7, lower pH by 0.59, and raise Salt by 9.
