I have a pentair ic40 and after acid washing it to clean it, my pool has algae growing on the sides. I've used some shock and it seems to be helping some. Can I use an algacide with the swg and what's the best type?

Regardless if your pool is an SWG pool or not, if you have algae you'll want to "SLAM" with regular bleach. Algaecides are (at times) good for preventative measures, but not for resolving an on-going algae issue. Please see the SLAM page link below in my signature and let us now if you have any questions.
