Question about rust

Stainless shouldn't rust. If it is actually rusting itself, then the alloy is incorrect for the installation or the passivation layer has been damaged. Rust spots will appear on stainless due to contact with carbon steel. Polishing with wet or dry corundum sandpaper will remove it, but it can also remove the passivation layer that protects it. Which may be why you are seeing rust spots.
