Changing filters.

Using a Hayward EC-40 DE filter now. Looking to change to a cartridge filter. Looking at the Pentair 420. Have been using using flexible hoses on the Hayward since I bought pool (20 years). Can I use hoses on the Pentair? All the info I've seen on this filter refers to 2 1/2 in plumbing. Hoses are 1 1/4 in. Any ideas? Tnks
