Liquid Stabilizer Okay For Me? - CYA

I have a SWG system and my CYA is about 20ppm and want to add stabilizer/conditioner to it right away. I used HTH Conditioner (dry granules) before and it took a really long time to dissolve. Will liquid stabilizer like this be safe for my SWG?

You are right. The 4lb HTH granules is about $15 and would raise my 10,000 gallon pool by 40ppm. The liquid conditioner is almost twice the cost.

Relax, open a bottle of POP (pool owner patience), and use the dry stuff.

You should also be able to find CYA granules at Home Depot, Lowes, many Ace Hardware, and at your local pool store so shop around a bit!

yup...Walmart carries HTH products at a pretty decent price.

By far, shop around. I've seen all sorts of prices, AFTER I bought mine for $14/3 lbs at the Pool Store.

I saw $15/4 lbs at "Meijers".... I saw $9/2 lbs at a different Pool Store.

One thing I noticed.....never paid attention before as I never had to add it....

The Malibu brand I bought, only had 50% CYA- the rest was Sodium Bicarbonate... :grrrr: I looked on the bottle after noting the price on the other 2 lb bottle and the ingredient said 99% CYA...I went home and looked at mine, because I couldn't believe the one pool store would have such significantly different pricing....

I wish I was paying attention when I bought it. Old habits die hard....something about being in the pool store made me a sheep again.....(and it explains why I had to use more than I thought I would to reach 50.)

I purchased a 4lb container of stabilizer for $14.97 + sales tax at Lowes. It contains 99% cyanuric acid.
