This may be a pretty ignorant question, but being somewhat ignorant to the subject, here goes. Do I still need to shock every so often when using the BBB method?

My rational side says I do. My unknowing side says, I'm not sure.

I'm a little unsure. Advice welcomed.

No, you only need to shock when something goes wrong, like the FC level going to zero or the pool turning green, or something like that.

only if you do not keep up with your water maintenance or have a bad storm...with a good test kit, shocking can be avoided all together, but may be rquired from time to time. FYI bringing water up to shock level is something you do with chlorination...not something you add to the water.
