Centurion Pump won't run (no humming)

New to being a pool owner. We have a centurion switchless motor 1.5 hp model/part 177080-40. The pump was working fine yesterday and today, nothing. Checked the breaker, reset it and we heard a poof. Tried it again, same thing. My old man said he saw a small flame/smoke come out of the pump. Any suggestions from the forum would be appreciated.

Sounds like a dead short on the windings, or you could have a loose connection on the terminal board. Not sure of your electrical knowledge to test, but if there is a motor shop in your area you could remove motor and take it there. If you can't then call a qualified Pool Service or Electrician to check
