Good afternoon Forums readers.....

I have an above ground pool, 18 feet in diameter......however, I have been testing the water since the pool was opened 2 weeks ago.. here is the last reading of the pool. Let me state that i am using the strips to test water and should go buy a true kit for testing.. So here are the readings and any help you can give would be appreciated.

Free Chlorine between 0 and 0.5
PH 8.4.
total alkalinity 170
cyanuric acid 100

Hopefully these numbers will be of some help as to what I should do to the pool. I have used some shock to it as told by that neighbor that knows everything..

Welcome to TFP!

Assuming your test strips gave correct results (which is a big assumption):

Your FC level is way way too low.
Your PH is way way too high.
Your cyanuric acid (CYA) is way way too high.

You should do some reading at Pool School, see the link in my signature or near the top right of every page.
