How long should pump be circulating before testing?

I've always waited until after the pump had been on for about an hour or two before testing. Now that I have a timer (and my own test kit), I wonder if testing right when I turn the pump on or waiting a while really matters. Will a test on uncirculated water be different than when the pump has been running for a while? Thanks.
