Pump won't run on high

I'm having a similar issue. I have a AO Smith motor that when the pump is switched on it starts humming but won't spin. If I tap on the motor and starts spinning.

Time to replace motor?

Welcome to the forum!

More than likely the start capacitor is bad.

Is that part of the motor?

This is the best picture I could get bring in the box.

It is wired 110 now but I'm have a 220 gfci box installed by an electrician next week.

Yes, it is part of the motor. I think in that motor it is either in the hump on the casing if there is one, or in the back of the motor.

Just one other thought. Those symptoms can also be for frozen bearings. After you hit the motor and it starts, if you shut it off and then turn back on, does it start on it's own then?

Ok, then that is probably the bearings. They can be replaced but you are probably better off with a new motor.
