Pump Choice Advice Please

Hi,

I have a pool in France, 80m3 (20000 USG), SWG, glass media filter, 1HP fixed speed pump that draws 4.5A @ 230V & runs for 12 hrs a day during the summer, costing about $1.50 per day, $270 per season on cheap rate electricity. Pool cleaner is electric.

Am considering changing to a more efficient pump such as Pentair Intelliflow but not sure that I need variable speed since I don't vacuum clean. However, I do need to backwash every few weeks.

Is the Intelliflow a cost effective choice for me or would you recommend something else?

Thanks for any advice,

Roger

A 1 hp 2 speed pump would reduce your electricity use by 75% when running on low. It would work great to run on low for filtering and on high hp for other tasks. Actually, you could just change the motor and leave the pump in place.
