Possible problem with hydrostatic valve

Yesterday a leak detector company checked out my pool and sealed some leaks. There was a small leak at the edge of the hydrostatic valve, and he put some putty there. He got a little in the actual valve itself. He cleaned most of it away, but there is still a little in it.

Is this likely to cause a problem? I leave water in the pool all year long. Is there any reason to do anything about it before I drain the pool in a few years?

How often should you replace a hydrostatic valve?
