Dropping below recommended free chlorine level

Using Pool Math, I should maintain between 4 and 8 ppm Free Chlorine. Say my Free Chlorine drops to 3ppm using the Taylor K-2006 10ml test, do I need to slam or will I be alright? I'm not talking about a heavy bather load, just a typical, hot, summer day.

These are not black and white situations. 4-8 is a suggestion.

So, Don't let your FC fall below 4 ppm in the first place and if you do anyway, get it back up to 4 or better and you will be fine.

In short, absolutes don't work as there are so many variables.

Sometimes it doesn't take much to drop below the minimum FC to develop a problem- particularly when the weather is really hot. Try and keep your FC up at the higher end of your target FC, test daily and always make sure that you have enough chlorine at all times.

If you're not sure, you can always perform an OCLT and that will tell you whether you will need to SLAM.
