Hello,

Pressure drops to 5 psi when the pump has been on at least 1 hour. If pump is turned off and started again, all is fine for another hour. Pool guy first thought is was a bad diffuser in the pump, but then he said there was something in the circulation line, blocking the flow when it moves around (he thought is might be the flap that is broken off and missing from the bottom of the safety valve). He is going to charge $200 to try and blow it out with an air cannon.

Does this make sense? I do not want to be ripped off.

Hello and welcome to TFP! The valve he is referring to ... perhaps a "check valve"? They have a flap, and if it became defective it could have some impact. Many check valves have a clear lid that is screwed-on that you can remove and inspect. Make sure to close all 3-way valves first though so water doesn't keep pouring-out when you remove the cover. If the valve is fine, then you may have an obstruction in the suction line from the skimmer to the pump. Sometimes you can check for an obstruction by inserting a water hose into the pump strainer basket. Put those in so that it pushed water back towards the pool and wrap the hose with a rag/towel to try and help force water back down the line. Might get lucky. Hope that helps.

Nice to have you with us.
