You must provide more info to get good advice. Chlorine is the answer but how much and what kind requires more input on your part. Posting a full set of test results will get you the most accurate answers.
 
You don't necessarily want to use powder.

I would suggest you post a full set of results so we can advise you better. We cannot advise you what kind of chlorine to use without knowing what your current levels are.

Also, please update your profile to create a signature - we need to know your pool specifics/equipment. This way, you won't have to keep repeating it and we won't have to search for it. :wink:

Go to User Control Panel, the Profile, then Edit Signature. You are allowed 5 lines of text - size, type of pool, surface, various equipment.

Powders generally add other stuff along with chlorine. Whether that other stuff is bad or okay depends on what's already in your water. I second the motion for a full set of test results (FC/CC/pH/TA/CH/CYA).
