Installation of SWG before the heater

I am in process of installing new SWG. If I install after the filter and before the heater it will be a 30 minute job. The piping that comes out of the heater only runs about 6 inches before hitting valves and will take major planning and work to re-plumb to accept SWG.

What will happen if I put this in before the heater? Living in Houston I only use the heater for maybe 10 hours a year.

I appreciate any advise.

your heater core will corrode quicker than normal, regardless of how much you use your heater

the ideal installation is when SWG and heater run in parallel

the next best is SWG after the heater and preferably at some distance from it

installing it before the heater is a big NO NO, and should be avoided unless absolutely necessary (or unless your heater has titanium core)
