New Smyrna fl
Excavator found buried palmetto roots and stumps with dirt where our pool is being built from 4-14 down only 6 ft from our house foundation. Our house is elevated on dirt quite a bit from the pond that was built here but I am not sure if this is bad news for our house it is 10 years old no cracks yet. Should we extend our deck over this area and clear the tree line behind it to put the pool. Should we dig out plants and backfill then set pool? I was worried about digging causeing instability vs leavening it to decompose.

definitely remove all of the organic material there otherwise you are going to have major settling problems as they decay.

A few summers ago a boy was buried in sand for a few hours at the Indian State Dunes, the cause of which, was determined to be decaying trees that had been covered by the sand years ago.

The boy survived but the dunes are still closed until they can figure out how to prevent new sinkholes.
