Bugs getting through sand filter

We have a Sta-Rite T-210WF sand filter with a 1 1/2 hp pump on our 16x32 above ground pool. We have been getting some sand at the bottom of our pool and now there are bugs getting stuck in my saltwater chlorinator (which is after my sand filter). I pulled the top off the filter today to see if there were any visible channels but I didn't see any.

Originally when there was sand in the pool, I was thinking that maybe one of the laterals may have cracked, but that would not explain how bugs are getting through.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure you rinse after backwashing of course, but if it were mine, there's two possibilities I would check:

Spider gasket may have failed (usually you would see some other problems though) but easy enough to check. Here's a video that explains changing one: How to Replace a Spider Gasket on a Multiport Valve - INYOPools.com


If the gasket looks fine, then you could deep clean it per this procedure: Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

Thank you. I was wondering if it may be the spider gasket. I'll have to replace it to see what happens.

Bugs coming through pipes, start with the spider gasket. Makes perfect sense, hahaha
