Intex over the side skimmer..plug 2nd intake or not?

So pool life just got so much simpler with the skimmer! I'm in love. I could just sit and watch it. Haha. We have tons of gnats and june bugs that end up in our pool. Its almost clear of gnats in an hour.
I did plug the second intake but I'm wondering is this a good idea or bad? My pressure has dropped by half on sand filter. Also wondering if skimmer will do a good enough job filtering pool without second intake?
Any thoughts or previous experience?

Good idea from cowboycasey.

Seems we have similar setup. I chose not to plug the 2nd intake since the skimmer still skims just fine with it open.

same here, I am using the skimmer and the second intake and it does well

I unplugged the second intake tonight and seems to run well. May use that plug while i vacuum though. Thanks!
