pump making noise and not pumping

I am new st this. Need help on my pump. It is a cartridge style. The motor was making a loud humming sound and now it is a high pitched sound. The pump doesn't do anything. Help!

Sounds like a bad capacitor on the pump motor. You can get it tested at the pool supply store. Make sure you cut off the electricity before u remove it from the motor. Also it can carry a charge by itself so u need to discharge it. If you're not comfortable messing with it take the whole motor to the store. Again make sure you turn off the electricity at the box before touching the motor.

Thanks. the pump is brand new. maybe been in use about 5 weeks total. I will figure out what the capacitor is and remove it.
