Oval Hard Sided AGP - Can it be shortened?

I posted a longer explanation in the newbie forum but wanted to put this simpler Q out here.

Is it possible to buy a used oval hardsided pool - say a 12'x24' and reduce it by leaving some of the middle section out?
Ideally I need closer to 16'-17'.

possible, yes, probable, no.. you would need to cut the side down, get a new liner, replace the top and bottom ring, just not worth the cost unless you really have to....

Don't know that I've ever heard of that being done.
