Opened 5/28. Pool was dark green, almost black. (photo).pool store (bioguard) had me add "sick pool", shock, balance pal 100 (25 lbs), algaecide. after a couple of days, pool was a light teal. Always cloudy. (photo). We also swept pool. Backwashed several times, cleaned filter, etc. Pool started to turn more green. added more shock. 10 bags over a 24 hour period over weekend. (today is Monday). (photo) Have never been able to see bottom of shallow end. All of the shock as faded print on liner. FC 4, TC 4, combined chlorine 0, PH 7.6, TA 120, TA ADJ 90, Calcium hardness 190, CYA 90, Phosphates 2500. (note: These results were yesterday afternoon from litehouse, not where i usually go. The only place that was open on a Sunday. Bioguard store doesn't check phosphates. Just a selling point for more chemicals? I don't know what to do next.

I'm a newbie, but suggest you ensure CYA is accurate (after dissolved for 24 hours) and then get another set of results.

First, step away from the pool store. Their purpose is to drain your wallet and they have succeeded so far. Our methods are economical and rely on you to do your own testing and adding plain bleach to kill the algae and other simple cheap ingredients to balance the water.
Second, order one of the recommended test kits, the TF-100 is the best value and you will probably need the XL option.
Third, add 1 jug of plain bleach a day until your kit arrives. Go purchase several jugs of Wal-Mart great value 8.25% (found in the laundry section) or their 10% liquid chlorine (found in the pool/seasonal section).
Fourth, read up on pool school.
Fifth, post up your results after you get your kit. If your CYA is above 100, do a dilution of 50% pool water 50% tap water so we can get an accurate measure of your CYA.

Yes, the CYA has continued to climb as I have added more chemicals. Also, when we took the pool pump apart to clean the filters, we found there was a crack in the manifold. Replacement of this part should help in the filtering process. Reading up on pool school. Will update in a couple of days. I will check the cya on chart. I do feel it is too high. It normally is 25 to 30.
When you get a recommended testkit, you will know for sure what your CYA is. Then we can get you fixed up. That's what we do!
