New owner, Summer Waves 20x48, have questions

I just filled up my 20x48 Summer Waves pool this weekend. I am wondering if I need to leave the pump/filter running 24 hours a day. Any thoughts? Also, has anyone added a skimmer to one of these types of pools? It didn't come with one, but I could see one being very beneficial.
