New here so be nice. Pentair pump for above ground pool tripping breaker. Something I notice is, with valve open to filter, pump doesnt sound right and kicks off. With valve set to closed, pump runs normal and doesnt kick off. Its like with no water it runs great, but with water it shuts off. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That could be due to the bearings going bad. They add extra load to the motor which can overheat the motor. By shutting the valve, it reduces the load on the motor.
You can either replace the bearings, if capable, or replace just the motor, or replace the entire pump.
