First test with TF-100 kit

Hi!

Here are the first test results from my brand new TF-100 kit. Filling our brand new above ground pool and the water is just about to reach the skimmer. So excited!!


K1000 Cl = .5
K1000 pH = 7.5

TA = 380
CYA = 0

27 ' round pool, vinyl liner, plan to use bleach

When I enter these values into the calculator it shows me the amount of bleach to add but no results for the TA. Am I missing something?

If that TA number is correct we might have a new winner. Are you wiping the bottle tip with a damp cloth? No matter right now:

First order of business is a little chlorine and a little stabilizer. Use the calculator to get FC to 3 and add enough CYA to get to 20.

Alright! So you want a minimum CYA of 30.

To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the Poolmath calculator into a white sock and place in the poolside skimmer basket. For those concerned about suction flow to the pump, suspending the sock near a return jet or from a floating device will also suffice. Best never to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. Squeeze the sock periodically to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level. CYA test readings should show a rise in 24-48 hours, however some pools may experience a longer delay to fully register. Best to confirm final CYA in about 5-7 days before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.

On this first day you want to ad some regular bleach for an FC target of about 3 ppm. After the stabilizer dissolves, increase FC to about 5 ppm. pH is good.

For TA, that will take some time with an "acid/aeration" trick as noted on the Pool School - Lower Total Alkalinity page. Just work on it a little each day as time permits.
