quistion about haywood vareflow valve.

hello i did a back wash hesterday evening and alot of sand was comming out via the back wasing i then rinsed it and filtered it. my question is when i added sand to the canister i covered the pipe that leads down to the legs of the filter so no sand would get in. when i installed the variflow valve i just put it ontop of oipe and locked it down with the big clamp that goes around yhe outside of the canister and valve together. my question is do i jave to clamp the valve down to the pipe that comes down to the legs?any help would be great

There's no clamp on the standpipe port. It just slips over the standpipe.

How old is this filter?
Why did you add sand to it?
How full did you fill the vessel?

its one year old brand new i dodnt clean the sand when i started it up u think that coukd if cause it

If you didn't backwash the sand when you first installed it, then it was most likely fines form the bag.

If it doesn't continue to pump sand into the pool, I wouldn't worry about it.
