Waterway Check Valve

Hi All.

I'm really having a hard time searching this topic online. Hopefully someone here can help me. My spa is draining and essentially stopping at the pool level. Local pinch a penny mentioned that it may be a bad check valve, but they don't carry waterway plastics parts.

I have a 600-7010 Swing Check Valve from waterway plastics http://waterwayplastics.com/products/pool-products/valves/swing-check-valves-2/

I believe the lid with the spring flap is 600-7300 http://waterwayparts.com/WW-CLEAR-LID-SPRING-CK.-VALVE-602-7300/

I unscrewed the nut, but the it looks like the lid is help together by two tabs that are attached to the valve body (below is a picture that I found online, hopefully the picture will show) rather than screws like other popular check valves.

My concern is the technique on releasing the lid with the flapper. I'm scared of breaking the tabs, because if I do, then I'm probably going to need to replace the entire valve body, plumbing, etc.

Please help!! Thank you!

I should mention that the spa is draining when the system is turned off, not while it's operating.

Perhaps this link will help: How To Repair a Pool Spring Flapper Check Valve - INYOPools.com
. I have the same valve as you and did remove the cover once because I had some debris caught in the flapper. But honestly I think I got lucky when the cover popped-off for me. It seemed stuck at first. Not sure what I did at the time with the system shut down, but it fell open allowing me to get inside. I could just be that the factory O-ring is making it feel stuck.
