1st time sand filter start up

I just got our new pool filled and I am starting up the sand filter for the 1st time. It is a 200# sand filter and I have 100# of Zeobest filter media in it per the pool store's recommendation. I have backwashed it so far with 400-500 gallons of water. The water coming from the back wash hose is still cloudy. Should I keep backwashing until it is as clear as the water in the pool?
I'm afraid if I turn it to filter, I will cloud up the pool.

You want to backwash till the water is clear or all that cloudiness will go into your pool. It is supposed to take 5-10 minutes.
