Intex Saltwater System- Should I return it?

Hi all,

I have a brand new Intex saltwayer system 15,000 gallon that was purchased for an above ground intex pool. We ended up ordering a pool from the pool factory instead, and I am wondering if we can use this intex system or if I should return it and get something else? If I do keep this, what else would I need to purchase to make it work? My new pool is 12 x 24 and 6800 gallons.

The pool factory suggested I use this combo:
Hayward S166T Sand Filter System with 1.5HP Power-Flo Pump
Solaxx Saltron Retro Jet Saltwater Chlorine Generator

I posted some questions / recommendations in the pumping station thread and did not receive any feedback.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I would like to order whatever I need asap. My pool is on the way now! :D

The Intex sand filter and SWG is fine for your pool. Lots of people here use them and are happy with them. If you want something different then I would recommend something with a 1hp 2speed pump. The Solaxx Saltron is also fine.

Here is a thread with nice upgraded equipment.
New above ground oval 18x33 install

Congrats on the new pool!

I have the Saltron retro xl. I like it because it just hangs over the edge and doesn't require the pump to run to produce chlorine. I think a inline swcg makes for a nice install but I don't like having to run the pump to produce chlorine.

Thank you so much for your response!

I talked to my pool installer as well as the pool factory today, and they both advised against the saltwater systems due to corrosion. Is there something I am missing here?

If I do decide to keep the intex saltwater system I have, would this work decent with it, or is there a better alternative?

I have the bigger one, better filter...

Amazon.com : Intex Krystal Clear Sand Filter Pump for Above Ground Pools, 3000 GPH Pump Flow Rate, 110-120V with GFCI : Swimming Pool Sand Filters : Patio, Lawn Garden

The sand tank is 16" inches, the same like the one for more than $300 in the link and the pump is like 1 HP, which is more than enough, for only $157... Better combination I think...

In others words if you go this route it will cost you $157 if you go the other way it will cost you $840..

Yes, but I change mine for a TFP one, much better and reliable

Then I bought an adapter to go from 1/4 male to 1/8 male I needed a 1/8xcl nipple and a 1/4x1/8 npt coupling

120 pounds, I went to Ace Hardware store, their pool sand is excellent, if you are using the Intex hoses they will connect just fine

I use adaptors for hard plumbed PVC something that you can do and I recommend, but you can do later on

Ok, I feel fancy- just updated my signature with all of my info and equipment :)

Hoping my pool will arrive early this coming week and installers will be out around Wednesday/Thursday! The weather is horrible here right now... but supposed to be better in a few days.

Next question- my pool installer told me to call an electrician to run a 110. Do I do this before the pool installers come out? How will I know where the panel on the pool will be and things need to go? Any idea on cost?

One more thing, to connect the Intex hoses to your non Intex pool, I think that you will need the adaptors, but that is not a deal breaker, you can do easily...

Take a look at the stickies in the above ground pools forum for more information
