How do I add DE to a sand filter without a skimmer?

I have an Intex 16 ft round ultra frame pool. The pool has one suction and one return. The pool has a skimmer that attaches by hanging it over the side of the pool and using a hose to connect it to the suction. I don't currently have this connected as I am trying to clear the pool and the skimmer had algae so I've washed it and set it aside.
How can I add DE to my sand filter if I don't have a skimmer? By opening up the filter (removing the valve and unscrewing the clamp) and pouring it on top of the sand?

You won't be able to monitor your pressure that way. I would either reconnect the skimmer or try to pour it right in front of the suction port in the pool and hope most/all gets sucked in. I have no idea it it would though.

I read that article and that's what made me question how I would do it. I'll hook the skimmer back up today and try it that way. Almost clear and kids birthday party tomorrow so hopefully I can clear it up some more !

How quickly will DE clear a cloudy pool? I'm at shock level on chlorine , brushing 4x a day

I don't know, it varies. But, it will help and you are doing the right things to make it happen as fast as possible.

I'm nervous that my skimmer may have a permeable bottom, and not all the de went through the hose. Pressure definitely went up so I backwashed but the water has taken on a whitish color. ?

Is this normal?
