Alkalinity Low

I test my pool water 2-3 x weekly, but I was at the pool store and had them check it, and found that my alkalinity was low, but my PH was perfect, and they suggested that I should use their "Alkalinity Up" product to raise it. Is there a way I could use Baking Soda instead?

What does your test say? For raising TA, regular baking soda is the correct stuff.

Use PoolMath to figure your dose but USE YOUR RESULTS to decide if you need it. DO NOT trust Pool Store test results.

I would ask, what is "low"? The pool store will tell you that 50 is low, but many of us keep our TA there to avoid quicker pH rise.

So, what is your TA?

My TA is 70 and my PH is 7.6

Sounds great to me. I wish I could get my TA down to 70.

So, they were trying to sell you something you don't need.

What is low to many pool stores is not low in the real world. My pool is very happy with the TA at 50.

So, maybe go there to buy some pool toys, but don't take them water and ignore their advice.
