Warning about fiberglass filters!

I'm sure somebody has experienced this already, but I might as well repeat it here. Because of clearance problems, the old Tagelus sand filter had to be moved a few inches to make room for a valve that I had to install. So I moved the filter by giving it a big bear hug and walking it inch by inch to its new location. No, I didn't drain it first. It was a minor struggle but no big deal.

Within minutes I started itching like crazy. Obviously the 15 year old tank shell was shedding tiny bits of fiberglass, and the irritation is much worse than touching fiberglass insulation. My arms and legs are still sore and inflamed.

Moral of the story: Use a towel or something to protect your body parts if you need to handle an old fiberglass filter in any way.
