Got a free above ground pool. Our old 18ft metal frame bit the dust after 6yrs. So I'm going to start a progress thread of the install. It's not a fancy in ground pool but it's still a better pool than the old one!

It was only up for about 4 years before we got it last year late in the summer. It is an artesian 24'x52". Has the resin bottom rail and top rails and uses a beaded liner. So we ordered the portifino pattern liner from in the swim.

Still have some leveling and ground prep but hope to get it set up in the next two weeks!

To tell the truth, all we're really interested in is the after picture, when you're hosting a swim party with dozens of bikini babes in attendance.

Digging and more digging. Ugh! Lol

Rain has been prevalent here. Haulting any kind of progress... Boo!!! Since we are lining it up with an existing deck it's more challenging to get the depth right so it cones to the right elevation once installed. Still have some dirt to remove obviously, if it ever stops raining and can dry out! Hopefully will be up by second week of June.

Not much has happened this week. The rain has kept the ground too wet to get out and do much. I did manage to scrape a lot of the high areas down to almost the proper elevation. It's all down to that final 1/2" or thereabouts so it really is just down to the fine tuning and setting and leveling the pavers. Now if Mother Nature would just give us a good week to dry out than it can rain all it wants to. But sadly all next week looks to be wet .

I did go ahead and order a new wide mouth skimmer and one replacement bottom track. The skimmer has some crazing on the surface and I didn't want to mess with using it. And as for the bottom track, somehow it got all warped and literally bent out of shape. Thanks to inyo pools I was able to get that ordered and on the way.

So the plan is to HOPEFULLY have this thing up in just a little over a week! I'm super excited for the larger, more permanent pool. I had a 24' growing up and having an 18' here was nice but when you can always go bigger, do as they say and go bigger!!

And here's the latest today! . I had help yesterday getting the ground perfectly leveled and all the pavers exactly thr same elevation. We used a 2x6 that was 14ft long to screed the pool floor smooth and level.

Today we got the wall up and foam floor and cove in and still managed to hang the liner and start filling. I hooked up a shop vacation and sucked all the air or as much as it could out. It did a pretty good job at pulling the liner tight and made getting wrinkles out a breeze.

Getting the wall up and uprights and tops on. Being a used pool there was very minimal rust on the wall. But I took a wire brush to the areas in question and then sprayed some rust inhibitor on those areas, hence the brown stripes.

It was very trying but managed to get the new pool to match up almost perfect with the existing deck we built with the old pool.

Used the 3/4" extruded foam from Lowes for the bottom and taped all the seams with gorilla tape. Also used the foam cove.

Loved working with a beaded liner. It was so much more easy to do than the overlap liner that I remember in the old pool we had growing up. Whole thing was hung in the receiver in less than 30mins!

I am in love with my liner selection. Very happy I chose the portifino! It has about 6 inches of water in it so far, maybe closer to 10. It's hard to tell now that it's dark. Probably shut the water off around 11 and resume filling tomorrow.

Thanks! It does feel massive compared to the 18ft. The liner we bought online through http://www.poolsupplyworld.com/Swimline-Beaded-Style-Portofino-Pattern-Above-Ground-Pool-Liner/Beaded_Portofino.htm and it was $362 for a 24'x52" beaded liner.

This is what your liner will look like in 3 years. I love the Portifino. Well worth the money.

Wait, What? Liner? Lol j/k It does look amazing! Glad to see the color doesn't appear to have faded in the 3 years you've had it installed. That is very reassuring. And I definitely agree that it was well worth the extra bump in price.

Looks like you have a good bit of shade over the pool in the pic. My pool gets full sun all day long so yours may not fade from the sun like mine did.

Yes it's only in the direct sun from around noon until 4ish. It's completely shaded by 5:30ish. We are going to put in solar panels in the corner of the yard that bakes in the sun most of the day. There are 3 huge pecan trees that do a good job at shading the whole back yard.

I also plan on actually closing it in winter so it will get covered and not be exposed all winter like the old one was. That'll help keep the liner looking good longer too I hope.

Im gonna cry when it comes time to close it for the winter. with the old one I just left it running and open all year long and just kept all the gunk vacuumed up.

Now in other news the pool is full!!! Yaay! It's interesting that the dirt on the bottom only collects along the taped seams of the foam underlayment. So there's grid pattern of sediment on the bottom. I'm used to all the low divots collecting everything.

Temporarily set the pump and filter close to the service panel but that will all be relocated around the side further from the deck when I go back and hard plumb and run lines to the solar panels.

Time to test the water and adjust accordingly and start dumping the salt in! Almost time for the inaugural swim!!

After putting in 420 pounds of salt and bleach. Now to weigh out the stabilizer and find an old sock to put it in. Clear enough the dirt lines show along the foam seams from two day of filling with out being able to filter.

Loving this!! So sparkly and clear. Everything is up and running. Did a deep clean of the filter as it's been in use the last 3 years on the old pool. There was some nasty chunks of organic matter that flushed out during the cleanse. Gross. Now the water pressure is back to like when it all was new.

Alright so now the the pool is up and running and we've had our first swim of the season it's time to start brainstorming ideas of what to do about the elevation change around it. Probably should of thought this through a little better before putting up the pool. I was just in a hurry to get it up.

The high side is well just that, high. The pool is basically level with the surrounding area.

But... The low side that had to be dug out to be leveled is right at a foot.

It doesn't look like it's that low but it is. Now my initial thought was to line it all with a heavy landscape fabric and back fill it all around with river rock.

I've read where this isn't good as thr wall will probably buckle in when ever a line change is necessary. Also not to sure if the river rock will hold onto moisture down in the deeper areas and be an issue with the wall and rusting.

Not really fond of the idea of back filling with soil as it would also stay moist when it gets wet.

Or other option would be to shave the areas where it's high and slope it down towards the pool so there won't be a drop off like there is now.

My favorite option is the river rock as I don't really plan on landscaping around the entire pool and it would be a good barrier to weeds and grass.
