When do you recharge your DE filter?

I was under the assumption after every backwash/rinse cycle you should recharge (my filter needs 6 pounds).

PB says when the pressure gauge doesn't fall back down after the backwash/rinse cycle, then you know to add DE, i.e. you may go through several backwash/rinse cycles before needing to add DE.

Which is it?

You always add DE after a backwash, but usually only around 80% of the full charge. You should tear it completely down once a year.
We recommend a backwash/cleaning when the pressure rises 20-25% over the clean pressure.
