My interior company presited the pool and suggested putting clear caulk between the TOP of the pool water tiles and the UNDERSIDE of the travertine coping. It is already grouted properly and looks nice. Is this needed or beneficial? They said it will save me from issues down the road.

I guess then the only one of the three of us knows what issues he's talking about. So I'd ask him (PB).
I could see it as a seal to keep black algae out of there but it does seem a bit overkill to me. I am pretty sure I would do a colored caulk rather than clear but I am also pretty sure I wouldn't do it in the first place.
I called CDC pools and they said to prevent tiles from coming loose. He said they do this to all their pool remodels.
I see no harm if there is no cost but I would think flat black or brown would be better than glossy clear. That said, I am not there so you would have to make that color choice.

Tile is blue dot (cheapest) and stone is Home Depot. We wanted this pool to come in at a low cost. We are very happy with the finished results.
