autocover and shocking the pool

In the process of opening my new pool for the first time. It is a vinyl inground pool (20x40) and I have an autocover on it (dark blue so very little sunlight gets to the pool). Should I leave the cover open or closed after I shock the pool Did not know if the high FC level may adversely affect the cover.

Leave it off because part of the shocking process is from the UV light and the outgassing of volatile oxidation byproducts.
