Raypak Heater - Rusted Burner Plate, Ruptured Pilot Tube

So, we've had our pool for 5 years now - original owners and everything was brand spanking new when installed. This year, when opening our pool, the technician indicated we have a ruptured pilot tube and the burner plate has completed rusted.

Any idea how this happened and why it has happened so quickly? Apparently he was telling me this should not have happened on such a new heater.

Any suggestions/feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

One possible explanation might be chemistry. If the pH is allowed to dip too low for a significant amount of time, it becomes corrosive and in-turn eats copper as a snack. Do you have a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006 to post some test results for us? Something else you might have to watch out for now ... metals (copper) in the water which depending upon the amount dissolved into the water, can turn hair green or cause some staining issues. Might also be a good lead to list your location off to the left by your user name so we know what area of the country you are located. Sorry to hear about your troubles.
