New to the sand filter stuff and have a few questions.

#1: What are the signs that I need to add more sand?

#2: I know I will get some sand back in the pool, but are the signs that I to much sand back into the pool?

#3: Approximately how many backwashing cycles before more sand is needed?

Thanks

Many people often mistake sand in their pool for dead algae. Capture some of it and let it dry and see if it is really sand. A sand filter shouldn't put any sand in your pool unless it is malfunctioning. You can also Perform the Overnight FC Loss Test (OCLT) to see if there is algae in the pool.

Even if you do a backwash?

Backwashing doesn't cause you to lose any sand. It just flushes out some of the gunk trapped in the sand. Be sure to rinse thoroughly after backwashing before going back to filtering.
