Free Chlorine

The scientific studies from the 1970s show that the effectiveness of the FC is tied to the the stabilizer (CYA) level and that is why we recommend and have the FC/CYA Chart.

No idea why the pool industry still does not seem to acknowledge this relationship 40 years later.

So the bottom line is a FC of 3-5 or 7-10 may be appropriate, depending on the CYA level. This is really the thing that sets the TFPC method apart from the typical pool store spiel.
 
Ray, it all depends on your current CYA, and if you use a salt water generator (SWG). If you refer to the Chlorine/CYA Chart (link in my sig), you'll see how the FC lines-up with a current CYA. That's how they are balanced together. Hope that helps.
