230V Pump Motoe -Wired Backwards

Folks,
I just want to sanity check this. Am in process of installing AO Smith 230V motor. Plan is to make sure that Magnetek L1 wire is put onto the AO Smith L1 lug etc etc. INYO pool support says it doesn't matter, pump will still turn correctly regardless of L1/L2 matching to old pump. Is that true, reason I ask is of course the AO Smith L1/L2 internal wiring may be totally different than how Magnetek wired L1 / L2 internally. ...and it should rotate CCW (counter clock) when looked at from the basket end, is that also correct?

Single phase AC motors do not depend on the wiring connections for rotation. The rotation is designed into the motor windings. Connection to either L1 or L2 with either wire is acceptable.

Rotation only matters in 3 phase 208/460/480/600 VAC motors.

You're confusing things with DC motors, where reverse polarity will cause the motor to go backwards. In AC, the voltage is constantly reversing anyway (About 60 times/sec ) so the motor doesn't care which lead is L1 or L2
