No Multiport valve - can I do this on my own?

Pool was built with only a black thing to open filter and close. There is no multiport valve. I can't empty to waste or anything.
Jandy DEV60 DE filter.
Would installing a multiport valve be a DIY project for a basic person? Is it worth it?
If not what multiport valve would you reccomend and how much should it cost to get installed or how long by a professional?

Jandy makes a multi-port valve, so it shouldn't be hard to find one compatible with the filter. Replacing the valve is usually not too difficult. It mostly depends on how your plumbing is laid out.
