Can I add Diatomaceous Earth to any sand filter?

My apologies if this has been discussed before. Can I add DE to ANY sand filter, or does it have to be a specially designed filter? If I can, what is easiest way to do it?

You can, just make sure it's pool grade DE and NOT food grade, which would make a cloudy mess of your water.

I have done it and LOVE the polished look of the water.

Just make sure you can babysit the pool for a couple of hours until you see how much DE YOUR filter likes. Some only like 2 Tablespoons and mine likes 1.5 cups!
