Replacing old doughboy pump with Hayward.

Thought this would be simple enough but the manual is confusing. So do I have to ground it or is it grounded through the attached cord? Also, not sure my old pump is bonded. It is a 24 foot round Above Ground with resin standards. Any help or Clarification appreciated.

Bonding and grounding are two different things. If the motor has a three prong cord, it is grounded if it is plugged into a grounded outlet. If the new pump motor has a "ground" lug on it, it will need to be connected to your equi-potential bonding grid. At the pump location your old pump should have had a thick copper wire connected to it. This is the connection to the bonding grid

I'm pretty sure the old pump wasn't bonded that I can see. Also, not sure I can find a ground lug on the new pump.
